i heard the other day that if a child is unable to read by the end of the third grade, they have an 88% chance of never reading. also, the size of a prison is determined by the county's number of illiterate third graders.

i don't know if that's 100% true or not. but i assume that there has to be at least some validity in it since i heard it from two different credible teachers, and it makes a little bit of sense if you think about it. whether it's completely true or not, it does make teaching seem a little bit more important to me.

and then i get a student come up to me and say, "ms. craig, my tongue is dry and when i don't have saliva in my mouth i can't concentrate. i have to have saliva in my mouth at all times." or: "you look like you're about 19." it's then i wish i had become a prima ballerina- my long held dream as a child. should have stuck with it.

i'm just kidding. i love teaching...so far. i finished being observed today, so for the first time in a few weeks i feel like i can breath. and that's a good feeling.

how was your thanksgiving? say hi to the fam for me, i'm off to work. :)
